1. Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a deep 2-quart baking dish. Drain and rinse sauerkraut, pressing out liquid set aside.
2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, sauté apples and onion in butter for 3 to 4 minutes or until apples are just tender. Add sauerkraut and caraway seeds stir to combine. Heat through. Spoon into baking dish. Place in oven.
3. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, place frankfurters in water. Over medium-high heat, return to a boil and boil for 3 minutes or until plumped. Drain. Split frankfurters lengthwise. Place on top of sauerkraut. Arrange cheese over top. Bake for 10 minutes or until cheese melts and sauerkraut mixture is bubbly on edges.
