Cut butter in pieces and spread on baking sheet. Put in 300°F oven until butter is melted. Place chicken pieces on baking sheet and brush with butter. Bake for 20 minutes, marinating chicken with butter and turning frequently. Turn oven off and continue marinating for 1 hour, keeping chicken hot. Remove chicken from butter and place in baking dish. Pour sauce over chicken and bake at 325°F for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and return to oven until cheese is melted.
SAUCE: Melt butter in saucepan. Add flour, salt and pepper. Stir constantly on medium heat until thickened and smooth. Stir together milk and soup and add to sauce. Cook over low heat until thickened.
