Heat oven to 450° F. Combine flour, baking powder and salt with a pastry blender, cut in 1/4 cup batter or margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk, mixing just enough to moistened dry ingredients. On a lightly-floured surface, knead about 15 times. Roll into a 12 x 6-inch rectangle. Brush with 2 tablespoons melted butter or margarine. Sprinkle with sesame seed and press lightly. Cut into 24 6-inch strips. Place on ungreased baking sheets and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until lightly browned. Serve warm.
Note: For a yeast bread stick, see Bread Sticks with Variations above.
Variations:
1. Instead of sesame seed, sprinkle sticks with poppy seed or Parmesan cheese.
2. For a sweet bread stick, sprinkle with a mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
