Serves: 5
*Dip a knife into milk (or the liquid used in the frosting) and spread it over the frosted cake for a sleek, shiny finish.
*Work a knife over the top and sides of the cake in small circular motions to create a swirled top.
*Use a rubber scraper or the back of a spoon to gently smooth spirals or trace crisscross or zigzag patterns.
*For soft or fluffy frosting, use the back of a teaspoon or the tip of a butter knife to lift frosting into peaks at regular intervals.
*Drag a fork across the sides of the cake, alternating horizontal and vertical strokes to create a basket weave effect.
