Specialty cake pans in the shape of a favorite storybook character or holiday motif are fun to use. The batter should reach about halfway up the side of the pan. To calculate, measure the amount of water needed to fill the empty pan use half that amount of cake batter. Using solid shortening, grease and flour the pans carefully.
