* Use bread flour, not all-purpose flour.
* Measure ingredients precisely. The machine cannot adjust to slight variations the way an experienced baker can.
* Bread machine recipes usually call for yeast by the teaspoonful rather than by the packet.
* Jarred yeast is handier and easier to measure than envelopes of yeast, and if you use a bread machine regularly you probably will go through a jar of yeast before it expires.
* Remove the baked loaf from the pan promptly to avoid sogginess.
* Some machines cannot handle whole-grain flours or heavy doughs others can.
