Prepare date filling below. Mix brown sugar and butter. Blend in applesauce. Mix in remaining ingredients. Press half of the mixture into a 13" x 9" x 2" baking pan thoroughly coated with nonstick cooking spray. Spread with date filling. Top with remaining mixture press lightly.
Bake until light brown, 25 to 30 minutes in preheated 400 degree oven
Date Filling:
Heat dates, water, juice, and sugar over low heat, stirring constantly until thick-about 10 minutes. Cool.
