Heat oven to 350 degrees. In a large saucepan, over low heat, melt together 1 cup chocolate chips, sugar, applesauce, and cream cheese. Remove from heat.
Stir in egg whites, baking soda, salt and vanilla. Blend well. Mix in remaining chocolate chips and the flour. (If nuts are added, they increase the fat grams by 1 and the calories by 12 per brownie. They are still only 24 percent fat.)
Pour mixture into a nonstick cooking-sprayed 13" x 9" pan. Bake 16 to 20 minutes or until just set. Cool completely before cutting. Cut into 20 squares and serve with vanilla ice milk!
These brownies are not a fat-loss choice but are a delicious "coasting" choice, much healthier and lower in fat than other brownies.
