In a mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. Beat in vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in pecans, cherries and chocolate chips. Spread in a greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Bake at 325°F for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Spread warm bars with frosting.
FROSTING
Melt butter in saucepan. Add milk and vanilla. Remove from heat and beat in sugar until smooth.
